Jemaa el-Fna tours at a glance
Most Jemaa el-Fna tours are walks through the medina, with the square as the start, the finish or a stop on the way. They differ in length, in what you eat and see, and in whether entry tickets are part of the price. The square itself is public and free, so a tour pays for the guide, the route and the stops, not for access.
The two examples below show what a single product costs in 2026. They are not a market range. Prices can differ by date, and a published offer does not show free places on your day.

Our picks: medina tours from the square
Our take: the Ben Youssef tour has a licensed guide; the monuments tour adds the Bahia Palace; the shorter walk covers the Saadian Tombs and the old quarter. Entry fees are extra on all three.
Hand-picked tours, booked through GetYourGuide. Prices are indicative starting prices in euros (as of October 2026). Tap a tour for live availability and the current price in your currency.

For most visitors with only one or two days, the 4-hour tour is the better fit if you want the palaces explained, because the two entry tickets are already inside the price. The 3-hour food walk suits an evening on the square. Both tours use a local guide in English; check the language options for your date. The food tour page goes through the tastings in detail.
Which tour fits which plan
What each kind of outing involves.
Medina and palaces
A walking tour of about 4 hours that links the lanes, a bread tasting and two interiors: the Bahia Palace and the Ben-Youssef Medersa. It suits a first day, when you want orientation more than a shopping list.
Palaces and museums nearby โFood in the evening
The tasting walk covers olives, pastry, harira, sfenj or msemen with mint tea and a dinner on the square. Extra food and the guide's tip are not included.
Food tour details โThe square after dark
You do not need a booking for the evening show. The square is open to everyone, and a guide mainly helps if you want the stalls and the customs explained.
The square at night โSouks with a guide
The lanes north of the square run to the Ben-Youssef Medersa. A guide saves you from getting lost, but nothing makes you buy. Bargaining is normal, and no fixed discount applies.
The souks โTrips out of town
Atlas valleys, the Agafay desert and Essaouira are separate day trips, not medina walks. Pickup is usually from hotels and riads that a vehicle can reach, otherwise from the nearest meeting point, so a start at the square does not apply to every trip.
Day trips from Marrakech โDo you need a guide?
Not for the square, sometimes elsewhere.
No guide is required to visit the public square, and no ticket is needed. A guide is optional in the souks and the palaces. Some visitors want one for the first hour in the lanes, for the history of a palace or to make sense of a tasting menu. If you prefer to walk alone, the getting there page explains how the lanes and gates connect, and the safety page covers false helpers who offer to show you the way. For a guided day beyond the city, see the excursion options on the Marrakech guide.
What to check before you book
The wording differs more than the prices do.
Date, product and meeting point
One operator can offer several products with different starts. Check that the date, the product and the meeting point match, and ask whether the meeting point is on the square.
What the price covers
The 4-hour tour includes two entries. The food walk includes tastings and dinner, but not extra food or the guide's tip. Extras change the final cost.
Age bands
The prices start at age 12 for adults and teens and at age 6 for the lower children's band. Check the rule for younger children before you book.
Cancellation and language
Terms and guide languages differ by operator and cannot be carried over from one tour to another. Read both before you pay.

Jemaa el-Fna tours: frequently asked questions
Which Jemaa el-Fna tour should I choose?
That depends on what you want. A 4-hour medina and palaces tour with entries included suits a daytime orientation, and a 3-hour food walk suits the evening. The table above compares single examples, not a ranking.
How much does a tour of Jemaa el-Fna cost?
Example prices are EUR 39 for the 3-hour food walk and EUR 75 for the 4-hour medina and palaces tour in 2026. Going on your own costs nothing for the square and MAD 100 per foreign adult for each of the three state sites.
Do I need a guide to visit the square?
No. The square is public and free, and you can walk it without a guide. A guide is optional in the souks and palaces.
Do tours start on the square itself?
Not all of them. Some meet at a set point, and day-trip operators usually collect you from hotels and riads that a vehicle can reach. Check the meeting point for each tour.
Are meals or tickets included?
It differs by tour. The 4-hour tour includes entry to two sites and a bread tasting, and the food walk includes tastings and a dinner. Extra food and tips are separate.
Is this the official site of the square or of a tour company?
No. This is an independent travel guide. It is not run by the City of Marrakech, the Moroccan tourist office, UNESCO or any tour operator.
