Where to eat on Jemaa el-Fna
You have three ways to eat here. The first is the rows of food stalls that set up on the square in the evening. The second is a restaurant or cafe on the edge of the square with a terrace and a view over it. The third is a guided food walk, which takes care of the choosing for you.
This page covers all three. For the stalls in the evening, see the square at night. If you want a guide to choose and explain the dishes, look at the food tour guide. Prices below are guide values for 2026, and no fixed price list exists for the square. If you want to compare, ask at more than one counter.

Restaurants and rooftop cafes
Terraces over the square are a common choice for the first look at it.
Restaurant Argana
The restaurant sits on Place Jamaa El Fna and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. It has a panoramic terrace with a view of the square and takes reservations. Check the menu prices when you book or sit down.
Other rooftop cafes
Besides the Argana, other cafes and restaurants on the edge of the square offer terraces. A view is not guaranteed from every table, and a free seat on the terrace cannot be promised, especially around sunset. Ask for the terrace when you arrive.
Before you sit down
Look at the menu and the prices before you order. It is the same habit that works at the stalls.

Food stalls: prices and how to order
The stalls are the heart of the square after dark.
| Item | Guide price 2026 | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Main dish at a stall | MAD 40 to 80 | No fixed price list for the square |
| Orange juice, normal glass | MAD 4 to 5 | Sold from the morning onward |
| Orange juice, large glass | MAD 8 to 10 | Ask the price before you take the glass |
| Side dishes brought to the table | โ | Do not assume they are free |
For most visitors, the simplest plan is to ask the price and what comes with it before you sit down, and to confirm that any side dishes are included. Prices are a guide, not a rate set by an authority.
When the stalls set up
Setup starts between about 5 p.m. and sunset. The busiest time is roughly 9 to 11 p.m., and a few stalls stay open after midnight. There is no single closing time.
Numbered stalls
Stalls carry visible numbers. The numbering is not a running count, and the number of active stalls changes from day to day. Estimates range from about 50 to more than 100 stalls in operation.
Ramadan
During Ramadan the choice of food in the daytime is smaller, and evenings are busier after iftar. Do not rely on fixed stall hours then; see the best time to visit.

A guided food walk as an example
